Government of Tamil Nadu (Government of Tamil Nadu Undertaking) Chennai - 600 002 Merit Cum Means Based Scholarship to Minority Students for 2008 - 09 Applications are invited from the students belonging to minority communities as notified by the Government of India who are pursuing degree or Postgraduate level Professional / Technical Courses from a Government / recognized Private Educational Institution for sanctioning financial assistance under Merit Cum Means Based Scholarship by the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Under this scheme, the scholarship allotted to Tamil Nadu for the year 2008-09 is as follows: No.of Scholarship for Total Number of Scholarship allotted to Tamil Nadu Muslims Christians Sikhs Buddhists 366 399 1 1 767 In addition, the minority students who were awarded this scholarship for 2007-08 and pursuing their studies during 2008-09 are also eligible for renewal scholarship under this scheme.

Eligibility

1. Students who get admission on the basis of competitive examination are eligible and who are not facing competitive exam are also eligible provided they should have obtained 50% marks in the previous final exam, at higher secondary/graduation level
2. The scholarship holder under this scheme will not avail any other scholarship / stipend from any other Department.
3. 30% reserved for Women Candidates. If, sufficient Women Candidates are not available, Male candidates can be selected.
4. Community Certificate should be obtained not below the rank of Dy. Tahsildar of Revenue Department.
5. The Annual Income from all sources of the student's parents or guardian should not exceed Rs.2.50 lakhs. Self Certification by way of an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs.10/- for Self employed parents. For employed parents, they should submit Income Certificate from the employer and in addition should furnish Self Certification on Non-Judicial stamp paper.
   Income Means: Income of the family from all sources. If Income certificate is found to be false, it will attract penal action as per the law.
6. Rate of scholarship: Actual financial assistance will be provided for Admission / tuition fee and maintenance allowance as given below subject to a maximum ceiling as indicated against item concerned.

Full course fees will be reimbursed to the students studying in listed institutions as approved by Ministry of Minority Affairs. For details of listed Institutions may log on to www.minorityaffairs.gov.in

Educational Institutions are directed to verify the filled in applications and all the relevant documents in the prescribed format and the same should be kept in the institution's custody.

The Head of the institutions are directed to sent the Utilisation Certificate for the Merit-cum-Means scholarship awarded during 2007-2008 to the Commissioner of Minorities Welfare before 31.07.2008.
