Village Students needs Weightage in EAMCET

Students that belong to rural areas studying at government junior colleges must try to get maximum weightage of the Intermediate marks in EAMCET because the rich students going to corporate colleges have an edge as of now. Students from rural areas are struggling to get quality Intermediate education without basic facilities, observed MLC and noted educationalist Chukka Ramaiah here on Sunday.

He was participating in a topper's felicitation function organised by Student Federation of India (SFI). Around 15 students who fared well in EAMCET - 2010 and model test conducted by SFI in Engineering and Medical streams were awarded medals and mementos at the function.

Mr. Ramaiah flayed the government's decision on implementation of the weightage for Inter marks without proper knowledge of the facilities for the rural students from this year.

"The weightage system is nothing but to deprive the rural students and only to help the city and corporate college's students. Students studying in the government junior colleges will have to suffer by the weightage system", he said.

He made it clear that the government's expenditure on education should be treated as a social benefit investment and it would reduce the differences among the rich and poor in the future.

The commercialisation of education should be checked by the government, he said.

He appreciated the efforts taken by the SFI in conducting the model EAMCET at nearly 361 centres in the State, by collecting minimal fee. The students' organisation should also take up academic work along with fighting for the education causes.

MLC K.S. Laxmana Rao said that students should choose professions other than Engineering and Medicine as many government jobs that were available would help them serve the poor better.
