The library which has been functioning with a librarian - in - charge, is now in the process of getting a full - time librarian with the appointment process going on, the Vice - Chancellor added.
Alongwith the digitisation, each library will also be equipped with language labs and browsing facilities, he said.
The science campus of the University at Guindy houses nearly 50,000 books, the library of Dr. ALM. Post Graduate Institute of Basic Medical Sciences at Taramani campus has over 12,500 books while the Oriental Research Institute Library on the Marina campus houses a large collection of books on Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Sanskrit and other languages.
The Vice - Chancellor said a formal letter had been written to the Director of Libraries stating that around 3.5 lakh books of those collected could be housed in the Anna Centenary Library.
They included books on literature and various subjects, he said. In response, the Director of Public Libraries had asked for a particular cataloguing of the books and the University was working on this, Professor. Thiruvasagam said.
"This will be completed by August before the Anna Centenary Library is thrown open", he added.
