Students urged to report Excess Fee Collection in Private Medical Colleges

Students, who have got admissions to various private medical colleges through the counselling conducted by the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC), should report to the Fee Committee if the colleges collect excess fees.

The parents should also abstain from paying excess fees and should insist on receipts for all payments made, a senior official of the Health Department said on Monday.

He was responding to reports that some private medical colleges have demanded the fees in excess of the amount fixed by the Fee committee headed by former retired Judge J.A.K  Sampath Kumar.

The official said that the students need not fear about losing the seat as the colleges have no right to deny admissions to those selected through the counselling process for the government quota seats.

Regarding the recommendation by the Fee Committee to the government to set up a monitoring committee to attend to cases of irregularities by the private colleges, the official said that the proposal is pending approval from the territorial government.
