NIT Students want CGPA to be recognised

A group of students from the National Institute of Technology-Karnataka, Surathkal, has appealed to the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) and the State Government to recognise the Cumulative Grade Point Average System (CGPA) followed by the Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science.

Students who passed out in 2007 told presspersons here on Saturday that for the past three years the KPSC had been rejecting applications for employment from students of such assessment systems. They suggested that the Government should conduct an entrance examination for various posts if it could not accept the CGPA grading system.

They said the CGPA system was widely accepted in the central services and in international universities and added that the Government should find a solution to the problem.

Complaining that the value of the points under CGPA would decrease after conversion into percentage, the students said it was unfair on the part of the Commission to ask for the colleges to submit the conversion table.
