Meritorious Students were rendered Laptops

To encourage students studying under Tamil medium.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was according top priority to impart quality education to students, said Minister for Social Welfare P. Geetha Jeevan. She was speaking at a laptop distribution program at Subbiah Vidyalayam Girls Higher Secondary School here on Wednesday. In a bid to encourage the students studying under the Tamil medium of instruction, laptops were being provided free of cost to the top scorers of standard X throughout Tamil Nadu every year.

As many as 33 students from various schools with a score of 480 and above received the laptops. Hailing the role of teachers, who were instrumental in producing these results, the Minister said that R. Pandian, a resident of Tuticorin, who stood first at State - level in the Plus Two examinations, had brought laurels to the district. The name of Tuticorin was taken forward to every part of Tamil Nadu and everyone was proud of his achievement, she added.

"For the previous academic year, as many as 36 students received laptops and I would like to see more number of students benefitting from this program in the next year," she said.

She stressed the need for utilising the laptops to learn more.

Sitting in one corner, hordes of information could be gathered from the sphere. This would help the students in keeping themselves abreast of developments in education, science and technology.

She also suggested to them to spend maximum time in the library to widen their knowledge.

Seena Vaana High school, a government school functioning under corporation limits in Tuticorin, had been upgraded to a higher secondary school from the current academic year.

The initiative was taken to impart quality education, she informed. R. Kasthuri Thangam, Mayor, P. Vishnu Prasad, Chief Education Officer, Robertson, District Education Officer (in - charge), Tuticorin, Mascarene, DEO (in - charge), Kovilpatti, were present.
