Mahatma Gandhi University Academic Council clears Norms for CAP

The academic council of Mahatma Gandhi University, which met here on Saturday, cleared the regulations for the centralised allotment process (CAP) and the online submission of applications for postgraduate admissions to colleges affiliated to it.

Based on the UGC directives, the council also approved the revised regulations for awarding Ph.D. degrees. The new norms will come into effect from July 2010 admissions. Those who have cleared national - level examinations like I.C.A.R. and those who have passed M.Phil. will be exempted from the entrance examination.

In order to maintain the quality of research, the new regulations highlight the necessity for mandatory course work, which has to be undertaken as fulltime in any of the university teaching departments or at an approved centre, provided the university does not have the faculty concerned.

However, the designated faculty will be responsible for the coordination of the course work.

The scheme and the syllabus for the M.Phil. course in Disability Studies at the School of Behavioural Sciences, and M.S., M.Phil. and PG Diploma in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology courses at the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology were also approved by the council.
