AUT condemns Excess Fee Collection
Meanwhile, the Association of University Teachers (AUT) has condemned the management of Kongunadu Arts and Science College for collecting excess fee from the students of the aided courses.
According to a release from C. Rengaswamy, Chairman of the Zone VII of the AUT, the association has consistently been demanding that self - financing courses be abolished from private aided colleges to avoid misuse of facilities that are meant for aided courses.
"It is unfortunate that many aided colleges extend a step - motherly treatment to the faculty and students of the aided courses.
"Self - financing courses should be conducted in a separate campus, preferably as another college," the release adds.
Appreciating the efforts of the State Government in sanctioning many teacher posts in colleges in recent years, it said that some college managements have chosen to challenge the appointment norms in the court of law to serve their own interest.
"Instead of availing government funds for the appointments, the managements are demanding money from the public with a wrong plea of appointing teachers on their own."
The association has also urged the Central and State Governments to strengthen the audit mechanism in colleges to check utilisation of grants for research.
