Call to encourage Research in Nanoscience

Nanoscience has tremendous significance in the field of technology and research in it should be encouraged to achieve tangible results, according to Dr. Arup K. Chandra, R & D Head, Apollo Tyres Ltd.

Speaking at a book release function organised by the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) on Thursday, Dr. Chandra highlighted the scope of development of nanotechnology in India.

MGU Vice - chancellor Prof. Rajan Gurukkal released the books - Natural Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composites (Edited by Dr. Sabu Thomas and Dr. Laly A. Pothen); Rubber Nanocomposites - Preparation, Properties and Applications (Edited by Dr. Sabu Thomas and Dr. Ranimol Stephen); and Heat and Mass Transfer Fibrous Materials - Theory and Applications (Edited by Dr. A. K. Haghi, Dr. Sabu Thomas and Dr. Laly A. Pothen) and handed them over to Dr. Chandra.

Dr. Chandra congratulated the authors for their contributions to nanoscience and pointed out that the books would prove beneficial to scientists, technicians and academicians in the field.

He also spoke about the rising importance of nanocomposites in tyre manufacturing.

Prof. Gurukkal emphasised on the necessity to streamline focus and energy for the development of academic knowledge.

He also showered praise on Dr. Thomas, Director, Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology for having made his mark in the field of nanoscience in the country.

Dr. Thomas thanked all those who were behind the preparation of the books. Dr. Pothen and Dr. Stephen, former students of Dr. Thomas, termed him as the spirit behind the outcome of the books.

They also spoke about the difficulties faced during the release of the books. Prof Nandakumar Kalarikkal of the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology , MG University welcomed the gathering.
