Bio - Medical Engineering has immense Opportunity says JNTU - K VC

Vice - Chancellor of JNTU - Kakinada Allam Appa Rao spoke on significant role being played by technology in the field of medicine.

He inaugurated a two - day seminar on 'Recent advances in bio - medical engineering' (Prana - 2010) at Gayatri Vidya Parishad College of Engineering for Women on Saturday.

Addressing the students, Prof Appa Rao said a bright future was in store for those who opted for bio - medical engineering.

Research in the subject was going on steadily all over the world he said and hoped that Prana - 2010 would also up with new inventions.

He said new and hitherto unheard of diseases were emerging and there was every need to find out new solutions.

The JNTU - K Vice Chancellor said use of machinery had gained importance in the diagnosis of diseases and drug delivery.

K. Raja Gopal, a senior Professor in the Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore), said bio - medical engineering was playing an important role in promoting a healthy society along with doctors. He said extensive research was being done on the emerging diseases.

Prof V. Srinivas from the Indian Institute of Technology (Madras) said there were ample opportunities for bio - medical engineers in hospitals and health centres.

President of Gayatri Vidya Parishad B. Swami said the course was being conducted with the latest technological equipment.

Seminar organising secretary B. Subba Rao presented a report.

Earlier, Principal C. Bhaskara Sarma welcomed the gathering.

Head of the Department of Bio - Medical Engineering G. Tripathi proposed a vote of thanks.

In the technical sessions that followed papers were presented on : "Changes in the field of bio - medical engineering, image processing and recording the reactions in the brain. Discussions were also held on tele - medicine and nano technology".

Students from various engineering colleges, Government Polytechnic and science colleges participated in the seminar.
