Seminar to focus on northeast monsoon

The Indian Meteorological Society, Chennai Chapter and the Regional Meteorological Centre will organise a two – day seminar on ‘Indian northeast monsoon – recent advances and evolving concepts’ at the Anna Institute of Management, R.A. Puram here from 24 February, 2011.

L.S. Rathore, Head of Agromet Services, India Meteorological Department, J. Radhakrishnan, Assistant Country Director and Head, Disaster Management, United Nations Development Programme, New Delhi, and Ajit Tyagi, Director General of Meteorology, IMD, New Delhi, are expected to participate in the inaugural ceremony of the seminar.

Y.E.A. Raj, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, RMC, Chennai, said nearly 200 delegates from educational and research institutions across India and countries including the U.S. and Sri Lanka are expected to participate.

Some of the participating organisations include Cochin University of Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, University of North Carolina, USA, National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad and Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.

“We will also have 13 expert talks in nine technical sessions. A total of 85 papers would be presented during the seminar,” he said. The topics to be addressed include tropical cyclones, floods, droughts and natural disaster management, seasonal forecasting of Indian northeast monsoon, impact of climate change on the monsoon system and dynamic modeling and modern observing systems. Two district collectors would also present papers on disaster management.

Applications invited for CSAT Coaching

Anna Institute of Management, Anna University, Chennai, has invited applications from civil service aspirants for undergoing coaching for Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT – 2011) and the applications should reach on or before 15th September, 2010.

Institute Premises

A release from Anna Institute of Management Chairman, Sheela Balakrishnan said that the coaching classes would be conducted on the Institute premises at Anna Nagar in Chennai.

The classes both full-time and part-time could be availed of by students from Adi-Dravidar, tribal, backward and other communities who had completed graduation and who are 21 years.
