University Grants Commission (UGC) team inspects Salem Arts College
Salem: A four-member UGC (University Grants Commission) team led by UGC Joint Secretary Professor Dohra today inspected Salem Govt. Arts College towards conferring autonomy on the college.
The team ascertained the views of students, professors and administration staff and finally the principal separately.
The UGC team comprising, Prof Purushotaman Reddy, Warangal University, Prof Teresamma, Hyderabad University and prof. Bijju from Jammu and Kashmir University, recommended some essential changes, particularly, the shifting of 1 year M.Sc. Chemistry classroom, which was functioning in a very small room, to a reasonably better place. Similarly, the team members also suggested members also suggested some changes in the chemistry laboratory.
Meanwhile, when the college principal Chandrasekaran and party were busy detailing about the infrastructure of the college, especially the centenary building, a section of the students caught the team of guard and pleaded them to take a look at the basic infrastructure like toilets and furniture available in college classrooms
Complaining about lack of basic amenities and teachers, a section of the students contended the idea of providing autonomy. Like the students, section or the teachers, also responded not in the affirmative, obviously, standing in the way of the management, in respect of securing autonomy.
