Sify iWay’s Programme includes basics of computers
Coimbatore: Sify iWay has introduced a Learn Internet training programme for those who want to learn the basics of the Internet.
As part of the project, a Sify iWay was launched on the campus of the RVS Home-opathic Medical College Hospital near Sulur recently.
The training programme includes the basics of computers and the Internet.
The candidate undergoing the programme will also be familiarized with e-mail, voice chat, online reservation systems the video messaging. In addition to that, they will also be taught Microsoft World and Excel.
Project
At the end of the programme, the candidate will also have to submit a project.
“Only 2 per cent of the population in the country is Internet users. The rest of the population has not been initiated into the world of Internet,” says M.Krishna Swami, Branch Manager, Sify Limited.
“The main aim of having this programme is to familiarize the public with the concept of the Internet,” he added.
While the programme would be available at all Sify iWays in the city for Rs.250, it would be offered free for students in the 17 to 21 age group and whose family income was less than Rs.3, 500 a month.
Useful
The weeklong programme would have one hour of training every day. This programme would also be useful for homemakers and senior citizens.
“Going through this programme, they would get a fair idea of how to use the Internet to communicate with their friends or family members living abroad, Mr. Krishna Swami, branch manager, Sify Limited, has said.
Misconceptions
In the case of students, a basic course in Internet would help in correcting misconceptions about it and have a better picture of the ways in which it could be used for collecting more information for their projects, he added.
