Govt. Arts College set to celebrate Golden Jubilee
Udhagamandalam: A series of events has been planned to commemorate the 50 years of the Government Arts College here.
Though the institution came into being on June 16, 1955 its 50th anniversary could not be celebrated in 2005 due to various reasons. The celebration to this prestigious college is likely to take place in mid-December.
Stating that the celebrations would be spread over about three days, the Principal, R.Sreeramulu, said here on Thursday that an adhoc committee headed by a senior member of the faculty A.J. Lakshmanan has been formed to organize a number of events.
Since many among the citizens of the Nilgris and neighbouring districts had passed through its portals, a highlight of the celebrations would be a rally. Expressing the confidence that the participation of practically all sections of society in the rally would be significant, he hoped that they would also not hesitate to chip in with their mite to meet the expenses, which the organizers would have to incur to make the celebrations and grand success. Bharathiar University cannot fund such events. On the anvil were cultural programmes, a seminar and the release of a souvenir. Stating that they were eagerly looking forward to the celebrations, senior citizens who had studied in the college hoped that the events would do the institution proud.
