574 Graduates get offer letters from 3 Software Companies

140 candidates get offer letters from Tata Consultancy Services, 202 from Cognizant Technology Solutions and 232 from Computer Sciences Corporation.

Amid parents and family members watching them with emotion in a packed auditorium, 574 Engineering Graduates who had passed out of various Engineering Colleges in the State this year received offer letters from three major Software Companies here on Thursday.

The candidates were selected in the Campus Recruitment Drive - 2010 conducted by Anna University - Chennai through its Centre for University - Industry Collaboration (CUIC) which is looking after the job placement of students passing out of Affiliated Colleges.

Offer letters were given by three companies :

  • Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)
  • Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) and
  • Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC).

P. Mannar Jawahar, Vice - Chancellor, distributed the offer letters to selected candidates in the presence of Senior Executives from the three Recruiters. Giving a word of advice to the young graduates, Dr. Jawahar said that recruiting companies expected students to possess 'good KASH' - Knowledge, Attitude, Skill and Habit. "It is also important to acquire soft skills / communication skills. Students' success depends on their level of sincerity, hard work, integrity, involvement and honesty. Also, don't switch companies frequently and be supportive to your parents always," the Vice - Chancellor told the candidates before giving away the offer letters.

According to him, only a few thousand students were getting selected in the Anna University's Tamil Nadu State Level Placement Programme while 85, 000 students passed out of 454 Engineering Colleges in the 2009 - 10 batch.

Dr. Jawahar informed that the Anna University - Chennai would take all steps to get 'core companies' for campus recruitment and get jobs for students of all branches. "Right now, the Software Companies are major recruiters. We will approach other companies too so that students of non - 0 IT branches could get campus placement opportunity," the Vice - Chancellor said.

S. Selvam, Director, CUIC, said that the Tamil Nadu State Level Placement Programme, which was started in 2004 - 05, was a boon for Engineering Students "as their dream of immediate jobs became a reality."

Change in Trend :

"Till 2004, the companies were going to only select institutions in the State. That trend was changed by Anna University through placement programmes held at various places for the benefit of students in all its affiliated colleges," Dr. Selvam said. The candidates who received their offer letters here would be joining their respective companies in the next few days. Out of the total 574 candidates, 140 got placed in TCS and 202 in Cognizant while 232 were recruited by CSC, which is participating in the Anna University campus recruitment drive, for the first time.

K. Ganesan, Senior Vice - President, TCS, Shriram Rajagopal of Cognizant and Kandasamy of CSC commended the CUIC team for undertaking the placement programme at the State level.

"But for Anna University, my daughter who is studying in an Affiliated College would not have got a job in a very good company," a mother with tears swelling in her eyes said. Another parent said that rural students benefited from the campus placement programme.
