Research Culture in University

Inculcate Research Culture into Students

A research culture should be inculcated into university students in India, said Namas Chandra, Associate Dean, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, United States of America (USA), here on Thursday.

He was here along with Prof. Lu, electrical and electronics engineering department, University of Nebraska, to interact with research scholars, faculty members and students of Periyar Maniammai University.

He attributed the success of the USA to its knowledge pursuit and intellectual property it has created. Universities should not be content with awarding degrees and diplomas but train students in carrying out research.

Universities can take up local problems and find a solution to them through their research activities.

Delta farmers are facing problems like water, alternate crops, agriculture in semi arid condition, biotechnology and medicinal herbs.

All these problems can be taken up as subjects for research by Periyar Maniammai University and University of Nebraska will collaborate with it in this connection as Nebraska is predominantly an agriculture region.GK Question Bank CD

A poster presentation was held at the end of the day. Thirty five presentations were made by the research scholars explaining the problem they are going to take up for research, their approach and solution in the posters. rof. Lu said research should provide solution for local problems with global approach.

N.Ramachandran, Vice Chancellor, Periyar Maniammai University, said the university has plans to send some third year students to the USA for training.
